Investment in the infrastructure of India's water supply is desperately needed due to the low standard of water that is supplied to the city. In Mumbai drinking water is a luxury.

Taking Bangalore as a case study we look at the causes of urban poverty, including urbanisation and push pull factors of rural to urban migration. We then visit Bangalores slums to see the impacts of this poverty including: poor housing, sanitation, lack of access to public transport, education, water.

In India, groups that are at high risk for HIV are proving that the disease cannot be contained by education and condom distribution alone. This video shows how Ashodaya Samithi--a community-based organization supported by Avahan, the foundation's HIV initiative in India--unites and empowers sex workers.
