The Hilton Trinidad & Conference Centre is indicative of our rich cultural heritage, and the vibrancy and originality of the local hospitality industry.
Opened in June 1962, the year of the nation’s declared independence from the British Crown, the then-235 room, 25 acre Hilton was the first international hotel on the island. Globally, it remains the only known ‘upside-down’ architectural design, and the fourth international Hilton hotel.
The hotel’s physical structure is owned by the Government of Trinidad & Tobago and its prosperous history has been largely influenced by the nation’s thriving energy sector-based economy.
Correspondingly, Hilton Trinidad & Conference Centre has been a key support to the nation’s economic development providing quality accommodation and conference services to visiting investors and resident corporate clientele for over forty-seven years.
In 1972, 181 rooms were added and in 1985, an expanded ‘North’ Car Park was developed. The year 2005 saw the hotel embark on a multi-million dollar renovation and refurbishment project that has greatly enhanced its capabilities to provide the state of the art luxury facilities demanded by today’s business and family clientele e.g. Wi-Fi internet connectivity, executive clubroom, all-plasma televisions, and the largest national on-location display of local artwork.
With four Presidential suites, the Hotel has long been considered the preferred quality provider of luxury accommodation and has previously hosted such global luminaries as Nelson Mandela, HRH Charles - Prince of Wales and Michael Jackson. In 2009, the Hotel successfully hosted current US President, Barak Obama and US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton.
The 2009 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting is being held in Trinidad from November 23rd – 29th 2009 and the Hilton is again playing a key role in its success by facilitating the contingent Minister of Foreign Affairs Conference.
Boasting 416 newly renovated rooms and over forty-seven years of service experience, the Hilton is poised to demonstrate its continued commitment to providing quality accommodation and conference services in keeping with the established standards of the Hilton group throughout the 21st century.
