Solar Power as a Backup Power Solution in Africa

In many Commonwealth countries on the continent of Africa, high quality access to the electric grid to access electrical power is rare. To aid with this effort, OutBack Power Technologies can help to supply a quality battery based backup system that will supply power even when the utility cannot keep up with the demand.  

In places such as Nigeria, for example, many areas do not have access to electric power. In some areas that have electric power access, that power is sometimes only available for 2-4 hours per day. When there is no power, many individuals will use backup systems utilising petrol or diesel generators to provide their required power. Many individuals do not have access to either generators or the funds to pay for fossil fuel to power the generators.

Depending on the amount of power the consumer uses, installing an inverter and small battery bank can reduce their generator run times by 50-70 per cent. By adding solar or wind power solutions, or other renewable energy sources, the use of fossil fuel burning generators can be eliminated altogether.
