Resources & Energy

Secure, reliable and affordable energy resources are fundamental to economic stability and growth. Yet for many areas of the Commonwealth nations, access to electricity and alternative energy sources is limited. This section looks at a range of possible solutions for resources and energy supplies in the Commonwealth countries. Whilst some articles encourage solar power and ‘quitting carbon’, others point to the growth potential that investment in oil reserves offers to some developing Commonwealth nations. The environment is considered throughout this section, including discussions of the seafloor, ecosystems and meteorology. The need for sustainable, environmentally friendly sources of energy needs to be addressed by decision makers alongside concerns surrounding poverty, energy security, energy costs and social and economic development.
