The global economic crisis has put debt and changing financial markets at the forefront of governments’ decisions. How to address poverty, and what kinds of industries to invest in, now need new solutions; and sustainable and climate friendly approaches to industry may struggle to compete with financial pressures. Articles in this section evaluate how sustainable businesses and investment in climate friendly practices can actually be more financially beneficial to countries. Recommendations are also made for achieving economic growth, through successful funding mechanisms, improved trade and by encouraging public private partnerships (PPPs). Investment in ICT, infrastructure and new markets is promoted, to help ensure that that a more financially stable future does not shy away from innovation.
