Funding for HIV/AIDS prevention care and support across the Commonwealth

In June, 2011, heads of state and government and representatives of states and governments met to review the progress made since the 2001 Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS and adopted the 2011 Political Declaration on AIDS in order to intensify global efforts towards the elimination of HIV. While recognising the tremendous achievements, progress and unprecedented funding in the last three decades, the UN General Assembly High-Level Meeting on AIDS (UNHLM) also acknowledged the challenges and gaps in the global response and its funding. Commonwealth Finance Ministers are therefore urged to ensure that member countries meet the resource mobilisation targets agreed at the UNHLM, remembering that increased investment now will reduce the need for increased funding after 2015, and enhance development across all sectors.
